DAYTONA BEACH, FL. (WALB) - There are hot hitters and then there is a Valdosta State infielder Matt Costello.
Costello went 9-9 in the Blazers wins over St Francis, Indiana and St. Francis, Illinois Tuesday afternoon in Daytona Beach.
Costello has now had 13 hits in 13 consecutive at-bats.
That ties the NCAA DII record and is two short of the NCAA record which was set in Division III.
The DI record is 14 hits in 14 straight at-bats.
Costello will look to extend the hitting streak Wednesday afternoon when Valdosta State plays at Georgia Southwestern.
Valdosta State beat St. Francis, In. 17-6 and beat St. Francis, Il. 17-8.
