ALBANY, GA (WALB) - This year's Snickers Marathon Energy Bar Marathon, Regions Bike Race, and Mardi Gras celebration were the largest ever put on by the city.

After counting passes from volunteers and their gate sales, Mardi Gras organizers say more than 37,000 people came to the street party Saturday. Organizers say the crowds were heavy all day for the events that started at noon and stretched well after midnight. The turnout was 30-percent more than last year and has organizers looking at expanding.

"It's getting to the point now where we really have to look at expanding the area that we're in just because of the turnout we have. We had more vendors this year and more people," said Tommy Gregors, Mardi Gras Organizer.

The Convention and Visitors Bureau says they met their goal of 1,500 runners for this year's Marathon. At the Civic Center, Friday's WestleMania and Saturday's Steve Harvey comedy show both drew big crowds of more than 6,000.
