Voters will decide if a new pet tag will go into effect

November 2, 2002

Albany- On Tuesday, voters will be able to decide whether a referendum creating special pet tags will be approved. The money from the tags will go to help pay for the costs of spaying and neutering pets.

Albany Humane Society Executive Director, Donna Strickland, says this new referendum will keep taxpayers from paying for pets to be euthanized. Strickland says voters must realize that if pets aren't sterilized, the pet population will continue to increase, and there will be no place for them to go.

She also says money from the new tags will keep a lot of pets from dying. If the referendum passes, you can get a pet tag in January of 2003.
