A concerned citizen is stepping up to help the children who have been devastated by the tornado in Oklahoma.More >>
LEE COUNTY, GA (WALB) - Even during these tough economic times, signs of business and industrial growth continue in Lee County.
A new sign announcing Publix will build a new shopping center at the intersection of Forrester Parkway and Highway 19 was erected last night. It says the store will open in the summer of 2010.
Lee County Chamber of Commerce officials say they can't say much about the Publix announcement, except that the grocery store chain has been looking to expand into Lee County for a while.
Chamber leaders say two new distribution companies are buying land in the Oakland Meadows Business Park on U.S. 82, showing signs of industrial growth.
Lee County Chamber Executive Director Winston Oxford said "The investor wouldn't be investing that money in real estate if they were not planning on doing something with it. So some positive things have occured this year in this tough economy in Lee County."
Oxford said the Publix announcement should start a new wave of commercial growth on Highway 19.
