ALBANY, GA (WALB) - Albany Police are still looking for the gunman in an afternoon shooting.

An Albany teenager was shot in the stomach near Monroe High.   The shooting happened during a possible gang fight near the 1400 block of South Van Buren at 3:45 Wednesday afternoon. Police have a description of the shooter but they haven't yet found him.

Albany Police say as many as 25 juveniles started fighting.  One of them pulled a gun and fired.

One bullet struck 17-year-old Jonathan White, who was taken to the hospital.  He was listed in good condition at the hospital Wednesday night.

Nearby residents say the incident was gang-related.

APD spokeswoman Phyllis Banks-Whitley confirmed that the gang connection is being studied.

The Albany gang unit and the District Attorney were both on the scene.

APD is looking for several people, including a teenager who is a dark-skinned black male, 5' 8", last seen wearing a green shirt and blue jeans.

Call 229-436-TIPS if you can help.

Monroe High School was placed on Code Red lock-down while police scoured the vicinity for armed suspects.
