THOMASVILLE, GA (WALB) - Youngsters at Jerger Elementary School in Thomasville enjoyed class in a new building Monday. The school broke ground on a two story addition 16 months ago.

Monday was the first day 3rd, 4th, and 5th graders had class in their brand new classrooms. The addition houses 12 classrooms and administrative offices.

Principal Melanie Chavaux says the kids are excited about their new home.

"You would think it was Christmas time, we've heard all kinds of 'oohs' and 'ahhs' and they're excited, the rooms are spacious, it's just a wonderful learning environment," she says.

Before classrooms were crowded, some rooms had two classes in one.

The new building has up-to-date technology. Every classroom has a smart board. And new flat screen televisions will be used for morning announcements.

Jerger Elementary plans to host an open house at the end of March. Feedback
