ALBANY, GA (WALB) - Here's something that affects how much you pay for home insurance: Auditors with the insurance service office will be in Albany later this month to evaluate fire services here.

Home insurers set their rates based on a community's ISO rating.

Chief James Carswell says the fire department has been working to improve fire services in the county for the past 28 months in preparation for this visit.

"We're working hard to not only improve our service delivery, but also, if nothing else, maintain where we were the last audit," said Carswell.  "There's a lot of things that happened in the last twenty years that affect our ability to respond."

One way Carswell has beefed up the department is adding on volunteer firefighters.

The group of about 10 auditors will spend about a week in Albany. The results of the audit should come out in 60 to 90 days.
