Valdosta - A Valdosta woman has been recognized for her outstanding business and community contributions.

The Professional Women's Association named Valdosta's community development director, Mara Register, this year's "Woman of Achievement." Register says the recognition is one of the most significant events in her life.

"All of the women nominated were truly "women of achievement" and it was just an honor to be nominated," said Register. "This has been one of the most outstanding moments in my career."

Register will compete for the state "Woman of the Year" award in the spring.
