ALBANY, GA (WALB) - Design work is still being completed for the pedestrian bridge which would cross Philema Road. Because sales tax revenue is down, city leaders plan to postpone construction.

"Because of the economic distress in the country, we're seeing some reduction in revenues in SPLOST and to be on the cautious side, we don't intend to pursue this project immediately," said Asst. City Manager Wes Smith. "Design work has continued and we're positioned to do work out there, to try and continue the path on out to Chehaw, but at this time it just wouldn't be a smart decision on our part to move ahead."

City leaders say they don't plan to take the bridge off the list of projects.

They're just holding it until they see how revenue comes in.
