BEN HILL CO. - Fitzgerald police are urging people to take extra care at ATMs and night deposit boxes after recent robberies. Police believe the robbers are targeting business managers, on their way to the automated teller machine to make their daily and night deposits. So they want you to give them a call first and get a police escort before you head to the bank to make an ATM deposit.
Chief Bill Smallwood said, "We'd like every business to take advantage of this service we provide, these guys are out there, no reason to go to the bank unprotected when we're there to do it for them."
There have been three robberies in the last two months at three different banks within the city limits. One of those was at an ATM, the other two were at night deposit dropoffs.
