ALBANY, GA (WALB) - The Red Cross won't shut down in Albany, thanks to your generosity.

The Southwest Georgia Chapter announced Wednesday it could have to close Friday without an influx of cash.

Donations poured into the office today like the $325 from students and teachers at Albany Middle School.

Coach Jesse Massey passed a bucket around the school, raising $150. Coach Massey added $175 himself.

Jesse Massey said "I saw it on the news this morning and I date back to '94 when the Flood came, and this is my way of trying to give back."

Southwest Georgia Chapter of the American Red Cross Director Mari Wright said "It reinforces what I knew about our community. That once they knew how much we needed their help, that they would come through." Will you be able to stay open? "Yes."

The Southwest Georgia Red Cross Chapter spent thousands of dollars recently helping fire victims.

Two families were burned out of their homes in Albany Wednesday. There were six fires in the last three days in the 11-county area.

They group still needs donations, but the office will be able to stay open.
