ALBANY, GA (WALB) - Albany Technical College handed out one of its highest honors Thursday morning.

Bridgette Morris, a practical nursing student, was named ATC's 2009 student of year or GOAL winner. The GOAL program recognizes technical college students from across the state for their achievements both in and out of the classroom. Morris says she hopes others will follow in her foot steps and consider a technical college education.

"I'm very excited about it. I just want to promote technical education in Georgia because it's very important to your education whether you have an undergraduate degree or coming out of high school," says Bridgette Morris, 2009 ATC Student of the Year.

Morris will now go on to compete against six GOAL finalists from technical colleges in southwest Georgia. That winner will advance to the state level.

Morris graduates from ATC in the fall and plans to continue her nursing education.
