ALBANY, GA (WALB) - Gas prices fall for the first time in 2009 as less drivers hit the road.

Nationwide the average price for a gallon of regular decreased by five cents going from $1.96 to $1.91. Here in Georgia, the average is $1.79.

We're faring even better in Albany with prices ranging between $1.72 and $1.77.

Retail prices dropped because crude oil continues to trade in the low range. Crude oil closed at just under $39 Friday.

The U.S. Department of Transportation says that Americans drove 3.8 billion fewer miles this past December than they did in December 2007.
