ALBANY, GA (WALB) - Not everyone is suffering during the recession.
Business is actually picking up for home appraisers.
Home sales are down, but as mortgage rates drop, many home owners are refinancing their homes to lower their monthly payments.
That means they have to get new appraisals.
"We've been picking up quite a bit, a lot of it is refinance with FHA, which is kind of the new sub prime market and that's helping them get into a more conventional type mortgage without that adjustable rate," said Matthew W. Gay, Certified Property Appraiser.
Gay says there has been some decline in home values around Albany, but not nearly so much as most of the rest of the nation.
