ALBANY, GA (WALB) -Feedback
When your Florida State baseball coach Mike Martin, replacing incredible athletes is just a part of the job year in and year out.
With baseball season just around the corner for the Seminoles Martin's task this season is replacing Leesburg's Buster Posey. Posey was drafted by the San Franciso Giants after having an incredible junior season with the Noles. Posey won just about every major player of the year award last season including the Dick Howser trophy and the Golden Spikes award.
Martin knows that Posey's don't grow on trees but they do grow in Leesburg and Martin is hoping that Buster's younger brother Jack can be an impact player this year for the Noles.
Jack has been focusing of 3rd base. Stuart Tapley is an all American for the Noles at that position.
"Well I think that jury is still out when you return an all American in Stuart Tapley, Jack is gonna have to play his way into a role but certainly we feel like he's capable of contributing big this year" said Martin."
Jack has cut down his weight and is hoping it will help him contribute in any way he can this year.
"Just conditioning I'm just much more able to stay up and be on top of things than last year when I might of worn down a little bit" said Posey.
Florida State opens the 2009 season Friday at home against Hofstra. First pitch is at 4:00.
