THOMASVILLE, GA (WALB) - We've got new information about the Florida man who died after deputies tased him in Thomasville.

The GBI says Rudolph Byrd, Junior was in an automobile accident a week prior to the incident.  They say some of his injuries were caused prior to his interaction with Thomas county deputies.

Byrd was arrested early Friday morning in Thomasville. Deputies say he tried to fight them so they tased him then handcuffed him.

He died shortly after at the hospital. Investigators found cocaine in his truck they believe belonged to him.

The GBI is still awaiting toxicology reports to determine the exact cause of his death. Feedback
