Valdosta State has been picked to finish sixth in the Gulf South Conference's eastern division in the preseason coaches poll released Friday.
The Lady Blazers amassed their 31 points in unusual fashion, getting three third place votes, one fourth place vote, one sixth place vote, two seventh place votes and one eighth place vote.
The most consistent vote-getter was GSC East defending champion West Alabama who received five first and three second place votes, good for 61 points and a 12-point lead over second place North Alabama.
Central Arkansas edged Arkansas Tech in balloting for the overall conference winner.
Lincoln Memorial (47), West Georgia (43) and Alabama-Huntsville (31) also finished ahead of VSU in the balloting.
West Florida (29), Montevallo (16) and Mississippi/Women (14) round out the voting.
No Lady Blazer was named to the preseason all-conference team.
