ALBANY, GA (WALB) - Dougherty County Police are looking for two counterfeit check suspects they say are preying on south Georgia businesses.
These are some of the fake payroll checks cashed at Homerun Foods and Jaxx Liquor Stores. They are made out from M&M Mars Snack Food usually for around $350.
Police say Gregory Bernard Williams is the ringleader, and printed phony checks in Georgia and Mississippi. They also have arrest warrants for Darius D. Brown of Savannah for cashing those checks. They have surveillance photos showing Brown cashing one in Moultrie.
Police warn check cashing businesses to be on the lookout for them.
"Getting to be a little bit of an epidemic type situation with these folks counterfeiting checks for various companies," said Dougherty County Police Captain Jimmy Sexton. "We certainly want people to be on the lookout for it."
If you have any information on Williams or Brown, call Dougherty County Police at 229-430-6600.
Investigators ask businesses that have cashed any of these checks to report them so they can lift fingerprints.
