RAY CITY, GA (WALB) - When an Albany woman and her one-year old son were kidnapped from the Albany bypass last week, Amber Alerts were issued on television, radio, and one place you might not think to look.

The social-networking website MySpace now publicizes Amber Alerts.  When a child goes missing, a small text box alert appears on the homepage of every Myspace user within that zip code.  You can even download an Amber Alert ticker for your profile that is constantly updated.

Rick Pennock, a firefighter for Ray City, says this is a great asset.  "People check their e-mail three to four times per day at work and on their breaks. This gives them the opportunity to get the information out there and pass word of mouth that much quicker."

It is helpful to keep your zip code updated on MySpace so alerts can reach more people who may be able to help.
