VALDOSTA, GA (WALB) -
He's been the face of Valdosta State tennis for decades and now John Hansen is headed to the Blazer Hall of Fame.
Valdosta State will induct the men's and women's tennis head coach into the hall on Saturday at noon.
In 36 years as head coach, Hansen has led his teams to a combined 14 South Atlantic and Gulf South Conference Championships and has been named conference coach of the year 15 times. Under Hansen's direction the Blazers have finished in the top eight in the nation a combined 12 times, including the 2006 men's squad that won the NCAA title.
"It really was a tremendous honor that the school would consider what I've been trying to do here as worthy of something like that. We've had a lot of good players in the hall of fame and it's just something that's very nice for me and my family" said Hansen.
VSU will also be inducting former men's basketball coach James Dominey, former football star Dallis Smith, former women's basketball star Cathy McCurdy and long-time supporter Tommy Clark.
