GSC coaches pick Blazers

October 23, 2002

the Valdosta State football team is four wins away from a third straight Gulf South Conference title and Wednesday league coaches picked the Valdosta State basketball team to win the G.S.C. men's title this season.

Four Gulf South Conference coaches are picking Valdosta State to win the league tournament.

That was the most of the G.S.C.'s 17 teams. Delta State, Henderson State and West Georgia all got three votes.

The Blazers also are the pre-season choice to win a second straight Gulf South Conference's eastern division title over West Georgia.

Last year Valdosta State won 24 games and their first conference division title but lost to West Georgia in the finals of the conference tournament and the ncaa Division II South Regional finals.

Valdosta State's John Prise is a first team pre-season eastern division selection and center Jon Rogers from Lowndes and guard Jerrod Jones are among the newcomers to watch this season.

Valdosta State opens its season at home on November 22nd against Puerto Rico de Cayey.
