Pearson-- A South Georgia county settles a case brought by a woman who says she was sexually assaulted by a deputy while she was a jail inmate.

Atkinson County officials agreed to pay the Waycross woman $50,000.

She was being held in the jail in 1998 for trying to hire someone to kill her husband whom she says was abusive. She claimed then-deputy Reginald Johnson repeatedly raped her.

Following an investigation by the GBI, Johnson pleaded guilty to sexual assault and was sentenced to 90 days in boot camp.
