Lee County-- An autistic Lee County boy has an important new responsibility as a youth ambassador for Easter Seals.

Six-year-old John Scott Okon was named the representative for the Southern Georgia region at the 2002 Annual Award ceremony. John Scott attends Lee County Primary School where he spends most of the day in a regular classroom environment.

He also works with his special education teacher who says John Scott is a natural born spokesman. Marti Eubanks says, "He's very special. He'll come in and say hi, how are you. You can't help but speak back. He's quick to introduce you to everyone else in a room, he's quick to tell you who everyone is."

John Scott loves Harry Potter and riding horses. As the 2002 youth representative, he'll attend various Easter Seal's events.

The Easter Seals also named WALB general manager Jim Wilcox the 2002 volunteer of the year.
