City commissioners talk trash

October 22, 2002

Albany - Your garbage man may be changing, but your bill won't. On Tuesday, Albany City Commissioners approved a solid waste contract with Wisconsin-based Onyx Company for garbage pick-up in west Albany.

Customers will continue to pay $17.75 a month for garbage service. "Your bill would have increased if commissioners had chosen any of the other companies that turned in bids," said Mayor Tommy Coleman.

Solid Waste companies now have to provide timely pick-up of yard debris. Commissioners amended an ordinance that requires companies that don't clear trash from a house within 3 days to pay a $300 fine.
