ALBANY, GA (WALB) - Albany city commissioners get a strategic plan update from department heads and many of their goals are similar.

Department managers from the airport, police department, and fire department met with the commission this morning and outlined goals for their units.

One common theme among the departments is the implementation of a health and wellness program for employees. The fire department just received a federal grant that will allow it to buy fitness equipment for every station.

Chief James Carswell said, "We've got a good start on an overall city healthy workforce and that's what our ultimate goal is."

The city is now self-insured for health care. By improving the health of employees, it could lower health care costs.
