One of the top guards in the peach state is on his way to the lone star state next season.
Monroe high basketball guard Demetric Bennett verbally committed to Southern Methodist University Monday.
Monroe High coach James Little says Bennett picked S.M.U. over the University of South Alabama in Mobile.
The deciding factor was academics where S.M.U. has graduated one-hundred percent of its players.
Another is the fact S.M.U. has two georgia players on their roster including Lavardicus Atkins from Pelham.
Demetric Bennett averaged 24 points a game as a junior last year for a Monroe tornado team that will be a contender for the state AAA title this year.
The N.C.A.A. fall signing period begins in three weeks.
