Albany - The business community wants serious consideration to be given to consolidating Albany and Dougherty County. The Economic Development Commission and the Chamber of Commerce told county commissioners that they support studying the pros and cons of city-county unification.

"We are not saying we support or don't support consolidation, but we think it's about time we look into the matter," said Mark Davis, Chamber of Commerce.

County commissioners did not officially vote to start a study. But on Tuesday night ,city commissioners plan to approve a resolution asking local lawmakers to help establish a committee to oversee the study.

No word yet on how much the study might cost.
