ALBANY, GA (WALB) - A Colquitt County couple accused holding up a Moultrie convenience store January 27th are now in jail in Alabama charged with shooting a police officer.

Investigators say 31-year old Chad Mercer and 28-year old Misty Mercer fired on officers who chased them for 40-miles after a robbery at a B.P. Station in Cullman, Alabama Tuesday.

One officer was hit in the jaw. He's recovering. Investigators say the Mercers fired a shotgun into the ceiling during the robbery just as they did during a robbery last Monday at the Chevron at 319 and Veterans Parkway in Moultrie.

Thirty law enforcement units joined in the high speed chase in Alabama before stop sticks blew out the tires on the Mercer's vehicle and they gave up.
