ALBANY, GA (WALB) -

A Deerfield Windsor senior interested in public policy was named Dougherty County's STAR Student Wednesday.

Divya Kishore  was chosen from a group of six STAR students representing each of the four public and two private high schools.

The program is sponsored by the Professional Association of Georgia Educators, the Chamber of Commerce, and the Albany Noon Lions Club.

Kishore said she was inspired by an internship in Washington, D.C. last summer observing the United States Senate.

Dougherty County STAR student Divya Kishore said "I'm not sure where I want to go to college yet, but I do want afterwards to go to law school and eventually focus on public policy to try and improve our country."

Kishore named Larry Collins as her STAR teacher. She will represent Albany at the STAR District Competition.

Other STAR students representing their schools were Casey Wesselman from Albany High School.  Nicholas Johnathan Mulkey of Dougherty High School.  Christopher Lovett of Monroe High School.  Taylor Ours of Sherwood Christian Academy.  Khalea Ashlin Wrensford of Westover High School.
