ALBANY, GA (WALB) - An Americus man was acquitted of murder charges even though prosecutors say he confessed to the crime.  

 A jury found Willie Peterson not guilty of the shooting death of 38-year-old Victor Maye of Miami, Florida.

Maye was gunned down on South Jackson Street in Americus in December 2007.

Prosecutors say Peterson confessed to the crime, and even led investigators to the murder weapon.

District Attorney Plez Hardin said he was disappointed in the verdict, but has to accept the jury's ruling.
