Deer season opening day

October 17, 2002

Dougherty County -- The longest firearm deer hunting season in state history gets underway tomorrow in Southwest Georgia. This is Stephanie Rumph sighting in her deer rifle, preparing for the opening of the season Saturday morning.

She'll be one of 300-thousand hunters expected to be in the fields and woods on opening day. Department of Natural Resources Manager Terry Kile said "You'll notice we have a week early this year. And typically Southwest Georgians don't like the week early. But this year because of cool temperature and the acorns are falling right now, we're gonna have a good weekend."

Hunters can take a total of 12 deer in Georgia this season, 2 bucks and 10 does. Once again does can be taken all season in Southwest Georgia.
