Knights kick their way to second round

October 17, 2002

Jake Lovejoy scored two goals late in the first half to lead 4th ranked Deerfield-Windsor to a 3-0 win over Tattnall Square in the first round of the G.I.S.A. boys soccer playoffs.

Jimmy Hotz got the Knights first goal with a header in front in the opening minutes of the match.

Deerfield-Windsor held on to that slim lead until Lamar Moree sent a pass to a streaking Jake Lovejoy that brought out the Tattnall Square goalie.

Once past the goalie, Lovejoy put the ball in the left side of a wide open net.

Minutes later, Kyle Belcher got an assist when he found Lovejoy wide open in front of the goal for the Knights final tally.

Deerfield-Windsor (15-2) advances to the second round of the G.I.S.A. state playoffs for the first time in three years.  Their next match is Monday at Darton College.

In other first round scores, Stratford shuts out Georgia Christian 9-0 and Mount de Sales eliminates Valwood  2-0.
