VSU students learn alcohol dangers

October 17, 2002

Valdosta - Will Shelton is learning about the dangers of alcohol.

"I've learned that it's really hard to operate a vehicle under the influence of alcohol and I definitely don't want to do it," said Shelton.

From breathalyzer tests to law enforcement lectures and simulated drunk driving activities, VSU students are feeling the heat from the consequences their actions can bring.

"The law enforcement around here really takes it serious and I don't want to drink and drive and then end up in jail," said Ryan Carpenter, College Freshman.

Amazingly, 50% of all fatal accidents in Georgia are alcohol related.

"Every weekend eight out of ten people on the roads will be impaired drivers," said Jamie Sullivan, Georgia State Patrol.

But thanks to awareness fairs like the one at VSU, people will be more informed of the dangers alcohol can pose, and help reduce those deadly statistics.
