ALBANY, GA (WALB) - South Georgia school systems are struggling to deal with budget cuts without hurting the quality of education.
The Dougherty County schools finance department has been working on the upcoming budget since September trying to find ways to cut costs.
School Board Chairman David Maschke says it's the biggest budget challenge he's faced since he's been on the board.
He says the finance committee will begin meeting soon to start shaping the budget.
"We know that the revenues are going to be down from virtually every source, yet the challenges facing the school system are always there and growing, so it's going to be a challenge, so it's going to require even more serious attention and a good input of time and effort," Maschke said.
The finance committee will hold its first meeting Monday morning.
