Thomasville-- Furloughed workers in Thomasville will not report to work at the Caterpillar plant over the holidays.
The temporary lay-off is expected to last two weeks in late December. The plant is scheduled to re-open with a full staff January second. Workers will be given flexibility to collect unemployment or possibly use vacation or other time to make up for the lost pay.
Tuesday, Caterpillar announced that five plants will be temporarily closed. The Jefferson, Georgia plant is on the list, as well as three Illinois plants. More than 3,000 workers will be temporarily let go.
