ALBANY, GA (WALB) - Cooper Tire has begun to dismantle its Albany plant. Equipment is being loaded up and shipped to Cooper's three other plants.

Tire making machines from the Albany plant were put on trucks Monday. The company won't say to which plant the equipment is headed.

Cooper Tire announced last month they would close the Albany plant leaving 1,400 employees without jobs.

When company officials made the announcement they expected lay-offs to begin in early spring, although WALB News Ten has learned notices may go out sooner than that.
