South Georgia businesses try to stop thieves

October 11, 2002

Albany- Walmart and Lowe's are two major chain stores frequented by South Georgia customers everyday, and many of these stores say shoplifting is a problem they want to stop.

Lowe's Loss Prevention Officer, Ken Savage, says the Albany Area Loss Prevention workshop will hopefully help these stores.

Magistrate Judge, Jim Thurmond, says there are laws many store owners should learn more about, so that if a shoplifter strikes, they will be ready.

Many say the ultimate problem is that when shoplifting occurs, it means regular customers may have to pay more.

Many say shoplifting will not end any time soon, and store owners hope they can find new ways to stop thieves.
