ALBANY, GA (WALB) - With the 2009 season now just over 60 days away, the South Georgia Wildcats front office has taken a big hit.General manager Darren McPhail will leave the team at the end of the month.
McPhail has accepted a job as the assistant general manager for ISP Sports at the University of Southern Mississippi.
The chance to work in college sports has been McPhail's dream. He moved with the Wildcats to Albany from Fayetteville, North Carolina in 2005.
The next year McPhail became general manager of a team that had posted consecutive three-win seasons.
It was Darren McPhail who hired Derek Stingley to be the Wildcats head coach in 2006 and 07 and the results were 23 wins, a division title and a playoff appearance.
Wildcats vice-president of operations Will Carter will take over the football operations and managing partner Silvio Fazzini will become more involved in the business end.
McPhail knows the timing for his move is not the best but that the Wildcats will continue to thrive.
Darren McPhail said. "But I think everything is in place with managing partner Silvio Fazzini. He has been much more involved since November when he took over that role on the business sides of things also football. I think with everything that is set up there that I have left it in good hands."
The South Georgia Wildcats open the 2009 AF2 season on March 21st at Florida.
