ALBANY, GA (WALB) - Albany restaurant workers remain on alert but there is some relief. Three suspects are in jail now charged with one in a string of nine holdups.

On Tuesday, police said solving the violent crime spree was their top priority and they thought the same gang committed all those robberies.

From North Albany to South, surveillance video reveals several recent armed robberies at restaurants. "It's scary for the simple reason that you don't know who or what is going to come," said Subway employee Santiago Bush.

Video shows one robber in action at the Subway on South Slappey December 9th--one of nine robberies since October. "You know when you work in an environment like this, your life is in danger," said Bush.

Bush says there's no reason for a robber to inflict that danger and fear on innocent people. "No excuse, no excuse," said Bush, "we're in a recession but we're not messed up so bad where a person has to do this and do that."

The armed robberies happened during business hours. Customers simply getting a bite to eat are seeing guns up close. "It's very scary. It's scary. It's sad and we need solutions," said customer Bridgett Shealy.

"As we always say, once the citizens get involved, we're able to get some results," said Lt. James Williams with Albany Police. Calls from citizens led investigators to three suspects, 18-year-old Rashay Wallace, 19-year-old Jeffery Alexander and 18-year-old Jonquerrias Gillan. Two of the suspects, Gillan and Wallace, are charged with the December Subway armed robbery.

"I'd just like to take this opportunity to thank the public for their assistance in calling and assisting us to make these arrests," said Chief Wilma Griffin with Albany Police.

"It makes me a feel a whole lot better to know that police are doing their jobs and working to put these people behind bars," said Shealy.

As for the other robberies including a recent one at another Subway restaurant, police are still working to determine if the same guys are responsible. "We are looking into that part of the investigation," said Williams.

In the meantime, restaurant employees are being cautious. Bush says they have to be aware of who walks through the door. "All of us work as a team and stay positive minded," said Bush.

As they work they hope they're no longer interrupted by bold robbers.

The three young men are also charged with burglary and robbery for targetting one of the suspect's neighbors on December 28th. Police say they put a gun to a man's head inside his apartment on Avalon Avenue and stole several items.
