Albany -- A 19-year old man is arrested for the hit-and-run death of an Albany woman Friday night.
Nikita McGriff of Albany was arrested at 1 o-clock, shortly after this mug-shot was shown on our Noon Newscast. Investigators say they received several phone calls, telling them McGriff was in a house on Hickory Lane. He was arrested there.
Police say McGriff was driving more than 80-miles an hour on Don Cutler Lane when he ran down 43-year-old Joanne Frazier Rivers.
Rivers was sitting in the road when she was struck. A passenger in the car says McGriff was scared after hitting the woman because he is wanted for probation violations.
Sgt. Leonard Bell said " The passenger said he tried to get the driver to slow the vehicle down. He could not get him to slow down. As he approached the area where the lady was sitting in the road. They saw her at the last minute, but it was too late. He struck her, at which time
he went ahead and left the scene. "
Nikita McGriff is in the Dougherty County jail charged with Second Degree Vehicular Homicide.
