ALBANY, GA (WALB) - The highest ranking official at the Marine Corps Logistics Command will represent the base and Albany at this year's presidential inauguration in Washington D.C.

Major General Willie Williams will participate in the day long activities January 20th. Williams will be part of the escort during the parade from Capitol Hill to the White House for President-elect Barack Obama's swearing in.

He'll watch part of the procession from the reviewing stand and also attend a luncheon and later one of the evening's balls. General Williams participated in Bush's inauguration in 2005, but said Obama's ceremony holds historical significance.

"It just really drives home the point that is really in our constitution and that it is embedded in there that everyone has these rights, these inalienable rights and so this particular inauguration I think is one that really speaks to that and it speaks to that in a way that's never been done before in the history of our nation," said Major General Willie Williams, MCLB Commanding General.

General Williams wasn't sure if he would have the opportunity to speak to Obama, but if he does he plans to welcome him as Commander in Chief.
