VALDOSTA, GA (WALB) - 18th ranked Valdosta State bracing for a tough Gulf South opener Saturday at Alabama-Huntsville.
The Blazers enter conference play with a 12-2 record. Many of those wins came at home.
Head coach Mike Helfer says his team has yet to play on the road in front the kind of crowd they will face in Huntsville.
The Blazers are also catching a Charger squad that has won five of their last six.
Valdosta State is glad to have their top scorer Tristan Crawford back after missing six weeks with a shoulder injury.
Coach Helfer plans to bring Crawford back slowly.
Mike Helfer said. "It usually doesn't go smooth as you are still re-adjusting. hopefully we can get him in there. Get some time and get some effectiveness out of him and continue to help us play well in games."
After Saturday's game at Huntsville, both VSU basketball teams are back at the complex to play West Georgia next Thursday.Feedback![]() ![]() | Explore WALB.com All content © Copyright 2000 - 2013 Worldnow and WALB, a Raycom Media Station.
