ALBANY, GA (WALB) -

Freshman Monshay Thomas has been an impact player for Laura Blackwell's Darton College Cavaliers.

The Terrell County product is only Darton's leading scorer at 15 points game.

With the Lady Cavs starting region play, coach Blackwell is going to ask more from her super freshman.

Darton has lost sophomore guard Aunrie Bakon for the season with an achilles tendon injury.

Coach Blackwell says Bakon was the Lady Cavs top defender.

Monshay Thomas will take Bakon's starting spot which means she will have to step up her game in other areas besides scoring.

Monshay Thomas said. "Yea I am going to have a big role to play. So, I am just going to have to go out and work hard."

Laura Blackwell said. "She is just getting to start as opposed to coming off the bench the whole time. we just have to worry about foul trouble."

Darton opens region play Saturday at Georgia Perimeter.
