Valdosta receives awards in finance and accounting

October 7, 2002

Valdosta - A south Georgia town has received the highest recognition in accounting and financial reporting.

The Government Finance Officers Association has awarded the city of Valdosta the Certificate of Achievement for Excellence in Financial Reporting and the Distinguished Budget Presentation award. Less than three percent of cities nationwide receive both awards in the same year.

"Instead of just generating numbers, we try to prepare reports that let the city know what's going on and really explain what the numbers mean," said Mark Barber, Finance Director.

This is the sixteenth year Valdosta has received the Certificate of Achievement for Excellence in Financial Reporting and the eight year they've received the Distinguished Budget Presentation Award.
