ATHENS, GA (WALB) - Knowshon Moreno and Matthew Stafford will leave UGA for the NFL. They made the announcement at an Athens news conference at 3:00 this afternoon.
Both players are projected by NFL draft analysts as first round picks with a chance Stafford could be the first player taken.
Stafford said last week after the Capital One Bowl game that he was 50-50 on whether he would return for his senior season. Moreno said he would make his decision after the bowl game also.
Stafford and Moreno are among five Georgia underclassmen who asked an NFL advisory committee about their draft status.
The others are corner back Asher Allen, defensive tackle Geno Atkins and safety Reshard Jones.
Atkins and Jones have both said they are returning for the 2009 season.
Until Wednesday, the news had been all good for Georgia head football coach Mark Richt, with assistant coaches Rodney Garner and Stacy Searels both deciding to stay with the Bulldogs.
Richt wished his players the best, and advised NFL teams to land the players if they could, even to trade up to get them in the draft.
