ALBANY, GA (WALB) -
A couple of former Albany football standouts should be stars of the South Georgia Wildcats in 2009.
The Wildcats announced that the AF2 league office has assigned Antwone Savage and Demetrie McCray to the Wildcat Roster for 2009. McRay is a former Albany State Star while Savage was a star at Westover in high school.
McCray is a defensive back entering his 3rd season in the AF2. He is coming off his best season with Austin where he led the Wranglers in tackles with 70 as well as interceptions with 9.
Savage is entering his 5th year in the league and returns to the wildcats after the reciever hauled in 76 passes for nearly 1,000 yards and 32 touchdowns in a Wildcat uniform.
"I can't wait to get out there I mean there is so much going on with the AFL I think its going to open up a lot of opportunities for the younger guys that are just getting to the af2 and the older guys that have been in the af2 that are trying to get to the af1. So I'm really excited just to go out there and make big plays and hopefully get a championship on the way" said Savage.
The Wildcats open the 2009 season on the road against the Florida Firecats March 21st. South Georgia will open the home portion of the schedule March 28th when they host the Firecats.Feedback
