ALBANY, GA (WALB) - A new Dougherty Superior Court Judge and District Attorney were sworn into office Friday.

A crowd was on hand to witness Denise Marshall's swearing in. Appeals Court Judge Herbert Phipps administered the oath of office.

Marshall worked as a Judge for the last 11 years in the City, Magistrate, and State Courts.

Judge Willie Lockette administered the oath to new District Attorney Greg Edwards, who has worked in the D.A.'s office since 1990, and also leading the city's Gang Task Force .

Edwards said "People who commit crimes, who use violence, who steal, terrorize, who violate others civil rights, peace and safety, they should be held accountable."

Marshall said "Together we work to make the wheels of justice turn. That is my commitment."

Marshall will begin hearing cases Monday. Edwards has been serving as Interim District Attorney for months, following the early retirement of Ken Hodges.
