ALBANY, GA (WALB) - Liquor store sales are a pretty good indicator of how many southwest Georgians are staying in new years eve.

You would have been hard pressed to find Parking at the Warehouse Package store on new years eve.

"New Year's is probably our second busiest day behind Christmas eve," said Louis Bernard, Warehouse Liquors Manager.

They're stocking the shelves as fast as customers purchase.

Bernard said this time of year when people celebrate is a great for the business.

"Champaign sales are extremely good today," said Bernard.

He thinks many of his customers will welcome the new year with good cheer right in their living rooms.

"I think with the economy the way it is more people are staying in and spending time at home, where it's safe and less expensive," said Bernard

But that less expensive option at home isn't the only one in town.

Live Christian Center International offered a free party Wednesday night for parishioners.

"It's going to be a night of music, praise and worship, and fellowship, giving people an alternative to what's going on in the world," said Stan Glass, Life Christian Center International.

Binging in the new year at church has become the norm for many.

"We're going to briefly talk about that year that's coming and make a commitment to live our lives the fashion that God would have us to," said

And looking into the new year, Glass said many will lean of faith if 2009.

"In the world it's probably going to get worse but in the kingdom things are going to get better," said Glass.

At the Package store Bernard says whatever brand his customers buy they need to be safe.

"We encourage everyone to buy it here and take it home, and have a nice peaceful new years day celebration at home," said Bernard.

Pastor Glass says the celebration the church offers is even safer.

"I'll wake up in the morning feeling good, I've played nightclubs for years and I know what new years eve is like, it's so much better to wake up and feel excited about you life, and be able to eat breakfast and hold it down," said Glass.

Thie Warehouse Package Store was opened until 11:45 on new year's eve.
