VALDOSTA, GA (WALB) -

While many businesses were closed on Christmas Eve, the 11th annual Feed the Needy charity event was open to anyone and everyone.

The program is sponsored by King Solomon Baptist Church, in conjunction with the Organization for Christian Outdoorsmen.  Volunteers helped families in need pick out clothing, shoes, and toys.

"I just feel like God has really blessed me during the year, and I wanted a chance to share with other people," says volunteer Sue Davis.

The crew also grilled food and served up meals. It is estimated that over 3,300 meals will be distributed today.

Reverend J.D. Martin, who founded the organization, was honored with a resolution from the State of Georgia.  Representative Alice Carter made a presentation, where she thanked Reverend and sister Martin for the great contributions they have made to an "already great" community.

Today, the Outdoorsmen made a special donation of bicycles to foster mother Alice Brown.  She says, "This Christmas is very special to my children because two of them was just adopted in June. So this will be their first Christmas as my adopted Children."

It will also be the first Christmas in three years her eldest son will spend at home after serving in Iraq. "When they contacted me about doing this for my children, I was very excited, and very thankful. I'm very thankful," added Brown.

"Thankful" was a word used a lot today... Both by those who received, and by those who spent their Christmas Eve exemplifying the spirit of Christmas.
