Remerton, GA (WALB) -

Remerton's police chief will serve as interim city manager.   The city council picked Chief Mike Terrell for the job in an emergency meeting after City Manager Brian McDougal resigned to take a job as city manager of Shawnee, Oklahoma.

His last day on the job will be January 16. Chief Terrell was selected based on his experience and because he was considered "next in line."

Mayor of Remerton, Cornelius Holsendolph, explained, "He will remain mostly as the Chief of Police and the department heads will just report to him. He'll be just the guy between council and the rest of the city employees."

McDougal will spend his remaining time in Remerton ensuring a smooth transition by briefing the staff on city business. The city council has not yet started the process of selecting a permanent replacement.
